Croatia: median of Croatian clinics' price lists in Croatian; below it, the range of the middle half of clinics (a quarter are cheaper, a quarter more expensive). Median: half of the clinics charge less, half charge more. Comparison: median of the group on the same scale; a dash means fewer than 5 clinics list that treatment. Scale: from 0 to the amount shown under the bar. Clinics HR: number of Croatian clinics listing the treatment. Amounts in euros, rounded to €5.
Croatia, price lists for foreigners: price lists Croatian clinics publish in English, German, Italian and other languages. Of 19 clinics with a price list in both Croatian and a foreign language, 9 charge more than 5 % more for at least one treatment in the foreign list. Hungary: price lists for foreign patients, in euros, almost always in German or English; Budapest and the counties along the Austrian border. Slovenia: few clinics so far, so only some treatments are shown.
What each price includes
This is how we recognise a treatment in a price list. When a clinic lists several prices for the same treatment (for example simple and surgical extraction, or different implant brands), we take the median of its prices. Amounts outside the limits are left out.
| Dental implant | Implant with placement, as listed. Not included: abutment, crown, crown on an implant or packages with a crown. Limits: €200–3,000. |
|---|---|
| Zirconia crown | Zirconia crown, per tooth. If the list also gives a zirconia crown on an implant, that line counts too. Limits: €100–1,500. |
| Tooth extraction | Tooth extraction, simple or surgical. Limits: €10–600. |
| Veneer | Veneer, per tooth. Limits: €100–1,500. |
| Teeth whitening | Teeth whitening, any method. Limits: €50–1,500. |
| Composite filling | Composite (white) filling. Limits: €20–400. |

How we calculate
- Source. Price lists that clinics publish as text on their own website. Price lists in PDFs or images are not read yet.
- Amount. From each line of a price list we take the amount next to the treatment. If a range or a from-price is given, we take the lower amount.
- Plausibility. Each treatment has limits (for example an implant from €200 to €3,000). Amounts outside the limits are left out.
- One clinic, one vote. If a clinic lists several prices for the same treatment, we take the median of its prices. A clinic with a long price list does not count more than one with a short list.
- Median and middle half. The median is the middle: half of the clinics are cheaper, half more expensive. The middle half runs from the lower to the upper quarter.
- At least 5 clinics. We publish a group only from 5 clinics, so that no single clinic's prices can be read from the statistics.
- Freshness. We measure every week. For each clinic its latest measurement counts, and we keep the history.
